« En service » signifie que la courbe d’allongement a été calculée après une utilisation dans des conditions atmosphériques normales. Cet effet est simulé en laboratoire par l’application de 10 tractions à 20 % de la charge de rupture.

The length of a vessel has proven to be the most useful reference for the sizing of mooring lines. Rope diameters mentioned are average figures which result from past experience. Deviations for particular vessel designs are likely to occur. The rope sizes are valid for a classic mooring layout: one headline, one sternline and two springs. A rule-of-thumb for the dimensioning of Polyester and Polyamide mooring lines is length of vessel in metres + 2 = rope diameter in mm. Size for ease of handling should also be considered.
