Popular-science programme X:enius takes to the ropes

How are ropes made? What can they be used for? What materials are used in their construction? The team from ARTE TV’s renowned popular-science programme X:enius came to Gleistein in Bremen to find out the answers to these and many more questions. Dörthe Eickelberg und Pierre Girard, the show’s German-French presenter duo, took to the factory floor to obtain an intimate look behind the scenes on all steps of rope production: from the process of transforming the raw materials into yarn, the various methods of braiding strands into rope, right through to the all-important finishing procedures including crash course in splicing at Gleistein’s in-house Rope Service Centre. The finished piece will be first broadcast (in French and German) on 5 May 2014 at 8:30am and 5:05pm and can then be viewed online for a further seven days.
