FLX Mooring System joins the party on Carnival Vista

Carnival Cruise Lines go for Gleistein on their newest cruise liner

Carnival Cruise Line has chosen the groundbreaking FLX Mooring System from Gleistein Ropes for its latest luxury liner, which takes up cruise operations in the spring of 2016. The Carnival Vista will be the company’s largest and most innovative ship ever and therefore ideal for deployment of the FLX Mooring System. It combines a high performance mooring line (made with Dyneema® fibres) with a highly elastic tail, which acts as the sacrificial element. This means that overall, the system is lighter and slimmer as well as being a more durable and economical solution in the long run, compared with conventional mooring line solutions. 20 such combinations will be fitted to the Carnival Vista in the Fincantieri Monfalcone Shipyard in Italy in early 2016. The Gleistein FLX Mooring System on the Carnival Vista will be comprised of the following:

Main mooring lines:  X-Twin Plus-Cover 38 mm Ø

  • Core: Dyneema® SK78 12-plait
  • Cover: Plus 24-strand with Geothane coating
  • Length: 200m each
  • Weight: approx. 150 kg/coil
  • Min. break load: 906kN (92.37 metric tons)

Tails: GeoSquare Plus 64 mm Ø

  • 8-strand square plait with Geogard Marine finish
  • Weight: approx. 60 kg/unit
  • Min. break load 740kN (linear) / 1,184kN (as grommet)
