Danish Sailing Team keeps the flag flying
Great season 2017 – and already busy with plans for 2018 and beyond
For almost four years, Gleistein Ropes and the Danish Sailing Association have cooperated for mutual success as part of a material sponsorship agreement. Following the notable achievements in 2016 including the unforgettable performance at the Rio Olympics with two medals and the development of RunnerTwin Olympic – an ultra-durable line suitable for deployment as a sheet and halyard, which was developed with the involvement of Gleistein’s premium partner in Denmark, Riggerne – 2017 has been another year of solid accomplishments. Among the highlights were:
- 49er class highlights – World Championships held August/September at the Clube De Vela Atlântico in Portugal: Gold for Jena Mai Hansen & Katja Salskov-Iversen in 49erFX class (first-ever World Championship Gold for a Danish crew in a 49er class). Also making it into the top 10 were Ida Marie Baad & Marie Thusgaard in 4th place and Anne-Julie Schütt & Iben Nielsby who came in 10th.
- Selection of Jena Mai Hansen as a crewmember of the Danish-American Vestas 11th Hour Racing Team for the upcoming Volvo Ocean Race 2017/18. Jena is the first ever Danish female to take part in the Volvo Ocean Race. The first leg of the race starts in Alicante, Spain, on October 22nd 2017.
- Nacra 17 highlights – European Championships in Kiel, Germany, in July/August: 4th for Lin Ea Cenholt & Christian Peter Lübeck followed a few weeks later with an 8th at the World Championships in La Grande-Motte, France.
- Laser Radial highlights – European Championships in Barcelona, Spain, last weekend: Silver for Anne-Marie Rindom. Missed Gold by just a whisker. She now joins an exclusive circle of Danish sailors to have taken medals in each of European and World Championships as well as an Olympic medal.
Gleistein congratulates the entire Danish Sailing Team for the great performances and efforts put in throughout the season thus far. With the partnership between Gleistein Ropes and the Danish Sailing Association now extended until 2021, we’re already anticipating having to congratulate the team a whole lot more in the future!
