Vegesack is the centre of Bremen-Nord. The big seagoing ships of the past could navigate the river Weser up to here, here the big shipyards were established, and here Captain Gleistein founded the rope factory, with a ropewalk hundreds of metres long, in 1824. In 1980 the company moved into state of the art new premises in Bremen’s Blumenthal district, opening a new era in terms of production technology and logistics. Georg-Gleistein-Strasse in the centre of Vegesack still recalls those bygone days today.
Our second production site in Slovakia started operations in 1997. Given the increasing globalisation of markets, this was a far-sighted decision taken at the right moment. The factory in Trencin has provided Gleistein with international connections and the optimised value-added chain that it represents will also secure jobs in the Bremen parent company in the long term.
Gleistein has had its own branch office in Britain since 2002, allowing the company to respond more quickly and precisely to the market there.
The company’s French office was opened in 2007. The French market also requires a specific response and a local presence.
